Which is better, uPVC or PVC windows?
Trick question, in a way. uPVC and PVC window frames are essentially the same thing in the UK market. The “u” stands for unplasticised, meaning the PVC has no added plasticisers, which makes it rigid enough to hold glass and resist weathering. Ordinary plasticised PVC is the flexible stuff used for cables and flooring, and it isn’t used for window frames at all. When a window company says PVC windows, they mean uPVC; the terms get used interchangeably in advertising. You may also see PVCu, which is the same material again, just written in the European word order. So there’s no better or worse here. Compare windows on their energy rating, profile system, guarantee and installer instead.
