What lasts longer, uPVC or aluminium windows?
Aluminium lasts longer. A quality aluminium window will do 30 to 45 years, and some go beyond that, while uPVC is typically good for 20 to 35 years depending on the profile quality and exposure. Aluminium doesn’t warp, rot or become brittle, and its powder-coated finish holds colour for decades. uPVC degrades more gradually: seals and gaskets go first, cheap profiles can discolour in strong sun, and the material becomes slightly more brittle with age. That said, the glazed units themselves usually fail before either frame does, since double glazed units last 20 to 25 years regardless of what surrounds them. So whichever frame you choose, expect to replace or reglaze the sealed units at least once during an aluminium frame’s life.
