What is the disadvantage of uPVC windows?
The honest list: uPVC frames are chunkier than aluminium, so you get less glass and more frame, which bothers people who want slim, modern sightlines. White uPVC can discolour slightly over decades, particularly cheap profiles on south-facing elevations. The material can’t be repainted easily, so the colour you buy is the colour you keep. It’s not the right look for period properties, and conservation areas often prohibit it. Lifespan is respectable at 20 to 35 years but shorter than aluminium or well-maintained timber. And environmentally it’s the weakest choice, being plastic with limited recycling routes. None of these are dealbreakers for most homes, which is why uPVC accounts for the majority of UK installations, but they’re worth weighing.
