What is cheaper, aluminium or uPVC windows?
uPVC is cheaper, and by a decent margin. A standard uPVC casement window costs £400 to £900 fitted, while the equivalent aluminium window runs £700 to £1,600. Across a whole house the gap widens: a three-bed semi costs £4,000 to £8,500 in uPVC against £8,000 to £16,000 in aluminium, so you’re looking at roughly 25 to 40 per cent more for aluminium, sometimes double. The price difference has narrowed a little in recent years as aluminium has grown more popular, but uPVC remains the value option. You’re paying the aluminium premium for slimmer sightlines, a more contemporary look and a longer lifespan, not for meaningfully better thermal performance, since modern thermally broken aluminium and good uPVC both achieve A ratings.
