Is it cheaper to replace a whole window or just the glass?
Replacing just the glass is significantly cheaper. A new double glazed unit into an existing frame costs £100 to £300 depending on size, against £400 to £900 for a complete new uPVC window. If your frames are sound and the only problem is a failed unit, misted glass or a crack, a glass-only swap makes sense. But it’s a false economy when the frames themselves are tired. Old frames with worn seals, draughts, stiff hinges or dated locking systems will keep costing you heat and may not accept modern high-performance glazing properly. As a rule of thumb, frames under 15 years old are usually worth reglazing. Beyond 20 years, full replacement tends to be the better long-term spend.
