How long does uPVC last?
Good-quality uPVC windows last 20 to 35 years. Manufacturers typically guarantee frames for 10 years, but that’s a warranty floor rather than a life expectancy, and a well-made profile from a system like Rehau or VEKA fitted properly will comfortably pass 25 years. What ages first isn’t usually the frame itself. Gaskets and seals harden and shrink after 15 to 20 years, hinges and locks wear, and the sealed glass units fail somewhere between 10 and 25 years, showing up as misting between the panes. Many of these parts can be replaced individually, extending the window’s useful life. South-facing windows age faster from UV exposure, and budget profiles from the 1990s discolour and turn brittle sooner than modern formulations.
