How to know if home windows need to be replaced?
Six reliable signs. Condensation or misting between the glass panes means the sealed unit has failed and lost its insulating gas. Draughts you can feel around the frame with the window shut point to perished seals. Handles, hinges or locks that stick or won’t engage properly suggest worn hardware and a security risk. Visible damage, such as cracked frames, rot in timber, or discoloured, brittle uPVC, is self-explanatory. Rooms that feel cold near the glass, or heating bills creeping up, indicate the glazing is underperforming. And water ingress or damp patches around the reveals mean the window is no longer sealing against weather. One symptom might be repairable. Two or three together, especially in windows over 20 years old, usually mean replacement.
