Is it worth replacing windows before selling a house in the UK?
Sometimes, but do the maths honestly. New windows rarely return more than their cost at sale; estimates generally put the value recovered at 50 to 75 per cent of what you spend. Where replacement earns its keep is when existing windows are actively hurting the sale: misted units, visible rot, or single glazing that tanks the EPC rating and appears on the survey. In those cases, buyers deduct more than the repair would cost, and some are put off entirely. If your windows are merely dated but functional, spend on smaller fixes instead, such as replacing individual failed units, servicing handles and hinges, and a good clean. Save full replacement for homes where windows are a genuine barrier to selling.
